Catholic Academy is seeking a dedicated and caring 6th Grade
Homeroom Teacher, who will also teach middle school Theology and
Literature, to join our team. Our 6th Grade Homeroom Teacher serves
as the primary teacher and pastoral leader for the 6th-grade class
while also teaching Theology and Literature to students in grades
6–8. This role is central to fostering strong academic growth,
faith formation, and community within St. Rose of Lima Catholic
Academy, a diverse, urban Catholic school serving a primarily
Latino population. Our teacher is responsible for creating a
structured, faith-filled, and inclusive learning environment that
supports the intellectual, spiritual, and social development of
middle school students. Our 6th Grade Homeroom Teacher plays a
critical role in forming students academically, spiritually, and
morally. This position supports the mission of St. Rose of Lima
Catholic Academy by helping students grow as learners, leaders, and
disciples of Christ within a diverse and faith-filled community.
Requirements: Homeroom & Pastoral Leadership (6th Grade) Serve as
the primary homeroom teacher for 6th-grade students. Build strong
relationships with students and families rooted in trust,
communication, and care. Foster a positive classroom culture that
reflects Catholic values, respect, and responsibility. Monitor
student academic progress, behavior, and social-emotional
well-being. Communicate regularly with families regarding student
progress and needs. Instructional Responsibilities Teach Theology
and Literature to students in grades 6, 7, and 8. Plan and deliver
engaging, standards-aligned lessons that support diverse learners.
Integrate Catholic Social Teaching, Scripture, and Church tradition
into Theology instruction. Teach literature in a way that builds
reading comprehension, critical thinking, writing, and discussion
skills. Use research-based instructional practices, including clear
modeling (“I Do / We Do / You Do”) and formative assessment.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of English language
learners and students with varied academic levels. Assessment &
Academic Support Design and administer assessments aligned with
Archdiocesan and school expectations. Provide timely feedback to
students. Collaborate with support staff to meet the needs of
students requiring additional academic or behavioral support.
Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and assessments.
Faith & Sacramental Life Support student participation in school
liturgies, prayer services, and sacramental preparation as
appropriate. Model active participation in the faith life of the
school. Help students grow in understanding and living out Catholic
values. Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities Participate
in team meetings, professional development, and school-wide
initiatives. Collaborate with colleagues across grade levels to
support vertical alignment. Communicate and collaborate effectively
with administration and support staff. Fulfill supervision duties
as assigned (lunch, recess, arrival/dismissal, etc.). Support
school events such as Catholic Schools Week, open houses, and
family events. Professional Expectations Demonstrate
professionalism, reliability, and strong communication skills.
Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards. Be
reflective and open to coaching and feedback. Support and advance
the mission of Catholic education in an urban context.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required (Education, English,
Theology, or related field preferred). Teaching experience at the
middle school level preferred. Practicing Catholic preferred; must
support and model Catholic teachings. Experience working with
diverse student populations strongly preferred. Ability to
collaborate effectively within a team-oriented environment. Work
Schedule Full-time, following the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Academy
academic calendar (Monday - Friday) Occasional evenings for school
events, meetings, or liturgical celebrations
