Job Description:

The YMCA of Northern Colorado is seeking a Program Director for Aquatics at the Cheyenne YMCA. We seek someone who daydreams about scheduling, staffing and CPR. We are looking for an aquatics ace who can help us continue our life-changing, life-saving aquatics programs. We need someone who has grace and gumption: An organized problem-solver and leader who cares deeply about water safety, staff management, programming and customer service.

Our future Aquatics Program Director will be committed to all aspects of the position: working within the framework of an annual budget; helping to hire, train and supervise a strong Lifeguard and swim Instructor staff team; and assist with the creation and implementation of meaningful programming including a competitive swim team league all while providing excellent customer service to our members and participants.
The ideal candidate will understand that the Y is more than just a gym or a pool. It's a community. And you are not simply helping kids learn to blow bubbles or help adults perfect their stroke technique. You are helping them find a support system, heal, improve their wellbeing, nurture water confidence and develop life-saving skills. You know some members are training for their 10th triathlon while others are stepping into the water for the first time. Either way, you can't wait to welcome them to the Y and show them how we can help.
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
  • One to two years related experience preferred
  • Minimum age of 21
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Bilingual-English and Spanish- preferred
  • Required certifications CPR. First Aid. Lifeguard, AED and O2
  • Prior experience as Swim Lesson Instructor
  • Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Required within 60 days: Lifeguard Instructor certification and Certified Pool Operator

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives set by the Branch Executive Director and the YMCA.
  • Manages and controls budget related to the position.
  • Supervises personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance.
  • Implement strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Participates in required Manager on Duty shifts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Salary Range: $40,000-$50,000/yr. This position is year-round, full-time exempt.
