  • Employee Assistance programA Day in the Life of the Clinical Nursing SpecialistWorks under general direction of the appropriate Nursing Director. The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) applies research, work through interdisciplinary partnerships, and applies specialized knowledge and skills to assure quality patient care and improve outcomes.Here Is What You Will Be Doing:
    • Exercises advanced knowledge and problem solving skills in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
    • While working directly with patients and the health care team members, the CNS implements treatment plans to resolve or mitigate health issues.
    • Assists in identification of patient/family educational needs and develop/ implement teaching plans to help meet those needs.
    • Provides advanced clinical consultation and make recommendations to assist nursing staff in modifying plans of care, reflecting evidence based recommendations, to meet specific patient needs.
    • Influences and drives clinical practice throughout the healthcare system.
    • Serves as a role model for quality nursing care and exemplary professional practice.
    • Involved in shaping the larger healthcare system.
    • Facilitates collaborative relationships with professionals at every level of the organization to help advance the management of health, illness, and disease in their specialty area.
    • Participates and collaborates with department and hospital committees to drive quality patient outcomes.
    • Guides nursing staff to assure safe, quality nursing care.
    • Helps to maximize staff's proficiency with critical thinking and problem solving.
    • The CNS assists in peer review.
    • Fosters a climate of learning and professional growth.
    • Engages in systematic inquiry to evaluate areas of need, both at the unit and system level.
    • The CNS utilizes research and evidence based practices to bring about systemic changes thus, improving quality patient care.
    • Analyzes research findings for potential application in clinical practice. Participate in research where identified to enhance practice.
    • Engages and consults where needed regarding ethics in practice.Desired Skills:
      • Knowledge and expertise of skills necessary for areas of specialty
      • Strong organization and communication skills
      • Must possess critical thinking skills with ability to prioritize needs rapidly
      • Ability to take initiative, problem solve and improve processes required
      • Demonstrates strong leadership skills: systems thinking, conceptual skills, and collaboration with others
      • Ability to collect, manage and interpret data, and interpret research findings
      • Experience in program development and implementation

        Here Is What You Will Need:
        • Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nurse program
        • In the state of Wyoming, as regulated by Wyoming State Board of Nursing under the Wyoming Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules and Regulations defined below:
          • The APRN is subject at all times the standards and scope of practice established by national professional organizations and/or accrediting agencies representing the various core, role and population focus areas for APRNs, and the NPA.
          • The Board recognizes APRN core, role and population focus areas described in the scope of practice statements for APRNs issued by national professional organizations and/or accrediting agencies.
          • Role and population focus of the APRN shall be declared, and the role and population focus to be utilized shall be the title(s) granted by nationally recognized professional organizations(s) and/or accrediting agency(ies) or the title(s) of the role and population focus of nursing practice in the which the APRN has received postgraduate education preparation.
          • In order to practice in one of the four roles and in a defined population, the APRN shall be recognized by the Board in that particular role with a population focus of advanced practice nursing.
          • Licensed as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the State of Wyoming
          • Three years' work experience in area of specialty, or equivalent area
          • Cheyenne Regional RQI within 14 calendar days of start dateRequirements Once Hired:
            • Specialty certifications per department:
              • AHA ACLS/ AHA PALS/NRP/TNCC/ENPC consistent with RN requirements per designated unit.Nice to Have:
