The Specialist, Creative Design II position is a full-time benefited position within the College's Marketing department. The work of this position requires an advanced and experienced designer to actively participate on the Marketing Team in the development of marketing strategies, approaches, design and produce materials to meet a diverse demographic of stakeholders on a variety of project subjects. Representative responsibilities include, but are not limited to: participate on diverse project teams; utilize advanced experience and skill sets to advise on and create: print and digital-media assets, promotional materials, publication layouts, etc.; support, troubleshoot, and adapt to barriers for project quality and deadlines. This position will be required to contribute to collaborative design and brainstorming; adapt to specific stakeholder and project needs; develop and complete projects that meet the strategic goals of the College and Department. The Specialist, Creative Design II will work on project teams and also be individually tasked with key deliverables for project completion requiring the ability to independently and efficiently perform duties in compliance with project timelines and standards. This position will advise and have a strong understanding of composition, color and visual identity, in both print and digital media design.

Essential Functions

Marketing Design and Project Support:

  • Utilize professional experience and advanced skill set to support, collaborate, and take on individual tasks in designing the college's strategic-marketing projects
  • Collaborate with the marketing team, departments, leadership, and stakeholders to inventory and prioritize projects and create project timelines
  • Employing professional experience, meet with and guide stakeholders/clients as part of a team and/or independently to determine stakeholders' strategic needs, design requirements, and timeframe for work completion
  • Participate in and utilize skills to help advance brainstorming sessions, draft design of materials, re-work concepts, approaches, and materials to meet stakeholder and college needs
  • Employ advanced skill in design of graphics, print and digital media, advertising, and other assigned materials to ensure professional work, alignment with college standards, and meeting stakeholder/project requirements and deadlines
  • Responsible for pre-production of files, including building multi-up documents, color conversion for print, and working with in-house print shop and Manager, of Internal Communications and Printing to ensure the quality of work
  • When assigned, may be asked to write, edit and/or proofread print and materials for the marketing department
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Team and campus departments to complete necessary forms and complete procedural processes as applicable to department functions.
  • Keep up-to-date on the latest trends and practices in marketing and graphic design
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Team and Printing for outsourcing of materials to be printed off-campus, which may include having color/press checks, and understanding client needs within budget limitations

Digital Marketing:

  • Responsible for design of graphics to be used on the LCCC website or in digital-marketing campaigns
  • Responsible for design of email campaigns for external marketing and recruitment
  • When requested, create postings for promotional and marketing efforts
  • Maintain a high awareness of industry issues, trends, technology, social media platforms, and design/development practices

Campus Communication:

As directed by the AVP of Institutional Advancement:

  • In the event of an emergency, as directed, create and collaborate in initiating campus communications through College communication channels (i.e. electronic systems, emails, phone calls, website, etc.).
  • Support logistical needs and overall emergency operations of the department including but not limited to assisting with setup of conferences; facilitate communication to department heads; gather and research pertinent information; as directed by the AVP, contact community organizations or individuals; overall support the College's emergency/communication response.
  • As required, cross train and serve as backup to team members within the departments for critical to business functions.

Nonessential Functions:

An employee in this position may perform some of these responsibilities on an infrequent basis.

  • Participate in various community outreach or community involvement activities on an intermittent basis
  • As needed, assist with general office operations and customer service
  • Assists the College in local, state, regional or national projects and programs, board, or groups when appropriate
  • Solicits feedback and implements suggestions from stakeholders and peers
  • Keeps informed of current trends and new approaches related to the area of responsibility via professional development activities
  • As required, attend college, division, and program trainings/meetings
  • Overnight travel may be required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced skill in producing creative and high-quality designs for print, web, and social media with high attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to adjust project timelines based on changing institutional priorities
  • Advanced working knowledge and ability with personal computing applications - specifically Adobe Creative Cloud products (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat) and Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint),
  • Ability to effectively and professionally execute the essential functions of this position with proven capabilities in establishing appropriate professional rapport, communicating with courtesy and tact, accurately determine other's needs, collecting necessary information, and follow-through when requested
  • Abilities and knowledge of design standards including typography, composition, color, and layout principles
  • General knowledge of marketing principles and strategy
  • Ability to take feedback and criticism on work and make necessary changes when appropriate to meet the clients need
  • General knowledge of illustration and motion design standards and best practices
  • Excellent customer service skills; ability to communicate clearly with a variety of people, in one-to-one and small group settings - either face-to-face, by telephone, or by other electronic means - ability to communicate in an informative manner, effectively listen, and be able to handle escalating situations with concern and confidence
  • Strong interpersonal/communication skills and the ability to prioritize, multi-task, set and meet deadlines
  • Ability to stay informed with emerging trends, technology, and design practices
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions in oral, written, or diagrammatical form (e.g., a flow chart of a process)
  • Knowledge of basic office equipment including (but not limited to) personal computer and associated peripherals, multi-line telephone, and other electronic devices.
  • Ability to travel when necessary

  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; a team lift technique is required for lifts exceeding 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds
  • Professional appearance is required; this position may represent the college to both internal and external stakeholders appropriate business attire is required



  • Bachelor's degree in marketing/graphic design or a related field; degree must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Four years of professional experience in design and development of marketing, advertising and/or publication projects
  • Proficient in Adobe suite products, including: InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator


  • Master's degree in marketing/graphic design or a related field; degree must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Six years of professional experience in design and development of marketing, advertising and/or publication projects
  • Two years of professional writing, photography and/or videography production and editing experience
