Job Summary: Core responsibilities of this position include: The Associate Dean of the Ludden Library and Learning Commons (LLC) is a full time, benefitted position responsible for the academic, strategic, and operational leadership of Laramie County Community College's (LCCC) Ludden LLC. These responsibilities include but are not limited to: plans, organizes, develops, administers and evaluates the functions of the Ludden LLC, which includes academic tutoring services, the Supplemental Instruction Program and Exam Lab. This position is responsible for the performance of the Ludden LLC including information literacy program, planning functions, personnel functions, budget management, teaching, program reviews and assessments, scheduling, and communication and liaison functions. Additionally, the Associate Dean is a member of the Academic Leadership Team (ALT) for LCCC, working in full partnership with other members of the team, as well as other departments, to develop and assess academic programming development and review; supports initiatives such as shared governance and accreditation; facilitates other college, university, and state-wide library partnerships, and acts in the role of a change leader. The Associate Dean provides leadership for department faculty and staff to assure that instructional programs, resources, and services promote the welfare and best interests of students in a manner consistent with the LLC mission and core goals of the College. LCCC in its strategic plan has identified important Core Values and Aspirational Values, which are inherent in the cultural fabric of the College. For information about Cheyenne, visit ************************************** Essential Functions: Ludden Library and Learning Common Administration: - Provide sustained, strategic, and dynamic leadership to the College's largest academic (non-program) service area through implementation of policies and practices that advance the goals of the College - Support the day-to-day department operations through providing guidance and troubleshooting assistance to the library faculty and staff; ensuring operations meet the College policies and procedures - Support and advance College, division and department initiatives that meet the strategic goals of the Academic Affairs Division and the College - Effectively communicate the efforts and services of the library to a wide range of stakeholders - Develop and maintain strong relationships across the State of Wyoming in education, government, library, community, and industry entities to support and advance the goals of the LLC, Academic Affairs Division, and the College - Provide leadership and support to the Director of the Learning Commons to ensure that practices, initiatives, policies, goals and outcomes are well integrated with those of the Library, and in turn, those of the Division of Academic Affairs and the College - Support the Director of the Learning Commons with the day-to-day operations of the Learning Commons area through providing timely and constructive feedback, response to questions, and being a supervisory resource in the absence of the director - Communicate the LLC needs, accomplishments, and concerns to the VPAA, faculty, instructional support team, deans and other constituents within the college - Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with campus partners, including technology departments, to ensure provision of resources and services in support of teaching and learning Fiscal Management: - The budget authority for the Associate Dean includes a general budget for the Library, Learning Commons and Exam Lab. This position will lead and collaborate in the development of annual program budgets - Develop, manage and administer the LLC budget, including monitoring and approving expenditures and securing additional revenue sources (such as grants) - Prepare and establish priorities for the LLC budget and identify, justify, and present the department needs to the VPAA - Responsible for library funds received from the LCCC Foundation and Wyoming State Library - The Associate Dean is also active in the Wyoming Community College Directors group that receives funding (shared among 7 community colleges), via the Wyoming Community College Commission - Lead and collaborate with multiple departments regarding facilities improvement, requests for new technology and/or equipment replacement - Collaborate with the LCCC Foundation and participate with networking of donors, both individual and organizations, that can provide supplemental support in a financial capacity and then working with the appropriate internal and external stakeholders to secure the maximum benefit to the Library and community - Support and actively participate in the planning, coordination, and stewardship required to ensure the resources and funding are secured and utilized in accordance with College policy and procedure Program Development: - Responsible for ensuring that all functions performed by the Library, Learning Commons, and Exam Lab provide measurable, positive, contributions to the work of achieving goals set by the Academic Affairs Division and the College - Actively review and help develop program compliance with accreditation standards, funding models, academic program needs, and assessment - Evaluate, plan, and adapt to programs and offerings to a changing landscape for the needs of students, faculty, and community - Create recommendations for, plan, and implement new technologies systems/applications to advance the department and college as a whole - Support and lead the staff and faculty to develop the tools needed to complete, adapt, and improve upon the operations and offerings in the service areas - Participate in the program review process including summarizing and analyzing data for academic programs and assisting VPAA with assessment and continuous improvement initiatives Service to the College: - Serve on the Academic Leadership Team (ALT) in partnership with the College's Deans and academic leaders - Serve, as required, on many vital committees, examples include: Information Technology Governing Council, College Council, Wyoming Community College Library Directors' WYCCC sub-committee, Wyoming Proctoring Software committee, co-chair of the Grades Policy & Procedure committee, and several other LCCC and State of Wyoming committees Project Management: - Identify, plan, and manage unique, transient endeavors-projects, undertaken to achieve planned objectives, in support of specific initiatives as directed by the VPAA - Collaborate with multiple departments, teams, and individuals to manage assigned projects including planning, development, and implementation phases - Provide routine status updates/briefings to various entities as directed by the project and/or VPAA Personnel Management: - Provide direct supervision of staff by assigning and delegating tasks, providing direction, resolving performance problems, communicating job expectations, completing performance evaluations, training employees and encouraging professional development opportunities - Develop and sustain an environment of professionalism and collaboration that is continually conducive to learning and teaching - Support LLC staff and faculty in accepting delegated responsibilities in a manner consistent with the mission and values of LCCC - Create a supportive environment that allows for diversity of thought and maximum participation by all levels of staff - Initiate, supervise and complete the recruitment and hiring process of employees in accordance with College policy and procedures - Develop, train, mentor, and supervise a strong cohesive team to cultivate a student-first environment, characterized by professionalism, collaboration, collegiality, and civility - Actively support departmental programs and policies - Ensure staff compliance with related College policy and procedure, administrative rules, state and federal laws and regulations, as well as best practices in each of their fields of practice - Collaborate with various departments and LCCC team members to complete necessary forms, paperwork, and procedures as they relate to the employment management process Nonessential Functions: An employee in this position may perform some of these responsibilities on an infrequent basis. - Assist in the design and implementation of academic programs aligned with current or emerging community, state, or national needs, as appropriate - Advise student clubs or groups as appropriate - Assist the College in local, state, regional, or national projects and programs, board, or groups when appropriate - Solicit feedback and implements suggestions from students and peers - Keep informed of current trends and new approaches to instruction via professional development activities - As required attend college, division, and program trainings/meetings. Overnight travel may be required - Provide collegial assistance and mentoring for new faculty within discipline area, as needed - Encourage full participation in the Faculty Academy Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Professional Knowledge and ability within the discipline of the assigned area - Ability to continuously monitor and research changes in the industry and field of study and to adapt program offerings to meet these standards - Advanced working knowledge and ability with personal computing applications - specifically Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), Adobe products (e.g., Reader, Professional), as well as database management systems - Skills and abilities to perform as an organized, self-starter, and able to handle expeditiously, accurately, and confidentially the rapid receipt of communications from all sourceswritten, email, voice mail, one-on-one with attention to detail; able to act on own initiative while exercising reasonable judgment - Excellent customer service skills; ability to communicate clearly with a variety of people, in one-to-one and small group settings - either face-to-face, by telephone, or by other electronic means - ability to communicate in an informative manner, effectively listen, and be able to handle escalating situations with concern and confidence - Ability to support time-based requests; able to function effectively in a multi-tasking, fast-paced environment with deadlines, frequent interruptions, and some interpersonal pressure - Ability to respond to common inquiries from college faculty and staff, regulatory agencies, vendors, regional business community, and others as may be necessary - Knowledge of basic office equipment including (but not limited to) personal computer and associated peripherals, fax machine, multi-line telephone, voice recorders, and other electronic devices - Capable of exercising discretion and good judgment at all times; able to maintain a positive attitude, exhibit patience, and persistence, especially when dealing with various internal and external constituents - Knowledge of and experience in budgetary procedures; strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail in all areas of responsibility - Ability to effectively and professionally execute the essential functions of this position with proven capabilities in establishing appropriate professional rapport, communicating with courtesy and tact, accurately determine other's needs, collecting necessary information, and follow-through when requested - Ability to travel when necessary - Ability to read and interpret instructions in oral, written, or diagrammatical form (e.g., a flow chart of a process) and consider possible applications of business literature and legal documents Physical/Mental Demands: To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to: * Maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data; including occasional evenings and weekends as needed * Interact with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions or may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations * Frequently move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities - Engage in multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor * Frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds * Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus - The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions;
